Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans
By Emma Kohlbacher

Why do I appreciate America’s Veterans? Because they fought for our lives and protected our country from harm. We live freely in this great country because of what they did. When they fought in the foreign wars, not all of them were fighting, they could have been doctors or nurses, but they were still veterans. The veterans fought these wars with great bravery no matter how they served.
A veteran is someone who was a soldier who served for the army and some fought in foreign wars. The veterans fought in foreign wars, that were all around the world leaving their families, not knowing if they would come home alive. How could someone just do that? A person with a lot of courage and someone willing to sacrifice for me and my country. In our national anthem, “For the land and of the free, and the home of the brave.” This is what veterans once did for us, and they should be greatly appreciated.
These veterans did amazing things for us. They protected our country and us. Most people think that a veteran is someone who fought in the war. That is not the case! Other veterans were helping by sending food to the soldiers, and making sure they got to the right troops, or else that troop wouldn’t have any food! Some were helping with the technology part of the war, like sending messages, and others could have been doctors, caring for the soldiers that were wounded. Even though they might have not been fighting they were still helping. We would have not been where we are right now if it wasn’t for those veterans!
But why did the Veterans want to fight for us? Was it to protect their family? Did they have a choice? Whatever the reason it may be, they are true heroes. America’s veterans should be thanked daily for their brave actions in protecting this country and helping us to remain free. I know that they are great people and deserve to be treated with great respect.
Veterans are the true heroes of our country, and they should be appreciated for all that they’ve done. Because of them, we are a free and independent nation. We know because of them, we have remained a free country, thanks to their bold efforts.
