Poor road conditions blamed for rollover in Chapman
CHAPMAN, Maine — A rollover March 24 on the Chapman Road in East Chapman was being blamed on poor road conditions.
Trooper Dennis Quint responded to the report around 10:57 a.m. Upon arrival, he discovered a 2003 GMC pickup, operated by Dillon Hadfield, 21, of Chapman, had rolled over and was blocking a section of the road.
“On March 24 Trooper Quint responded to a single-vehicle crash on the Chapman Road in Chapman. Trooper Quint determined that Dillon J. Hadfield was driving east in his pickup when the accident occurred,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, of the Maine State Police.
Harris said road conditions factored into the crash.
“Dillon came to an area of the roadway that had some snow and slush. When he struck the snow/slush, the vehicle lost traction, causing him to start turning to the left. As the tires left the roadway, the vehicle rolled twice and came to rest on its roof. Dillon, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was able to crawl out of the passenger side window,” Harris said.
As a precaution, Hadfield was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle by Crown Ambulance, where he was treated and released. The Presque Isle Fire Department was on scene due to fuel leaking from the vehicle as a result of the crash. The vehicle was a total loss.
