This month, an increasingly popular exhibit that helps parents and other adults learn to identify signs that may reveal risky teen behaviors is coming to Presque Isle and Washburn.
Entitled “Hidden In Plain Sight,” the exhibit is designed to resemble a teenager’s bedroom and is a must-see for anyone with kids — especially teens — in their home. Throughout the display are more than 100 items that may indicate that a teen is involved in some type of high-risk behavior, such as substance abuse, underage drinking, eating disorders, sexual activity and more.
The first event takes place in Presque Isle on Thursday, April 16 at the Hampton Inn, which is located at 768 Main Street. Two sessions will be held that evening, with the first beginning at 6 p.m. and the second beginning at 7 p.m.
The second event takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 at the Washburn Recreation Center, which is located at 2 Bridge Street.
Youth will not be permitted at either event.
Substance abuse prevention professionals and law enforcement staff will be on hand to guide participants through the exhibit and to answer questions. Organizers encourage adults to explore and interact with the display to get an up-close look at the items in the room. Participants will be enlightened, educated and astonished.
There is no cost to attend. For more information, contact Mark Shea at 498-9952 or mark@powerofprevention.org.
