EASTON – Suzanne (Suzie) Hoyt Flewelling, 72, passed away April 9, 2015, at her Easton residence. She was born November 4, 1942, in Presque Isle, the daughter of J. Winston and Elizabeth Hoyt of Easton.
Suzie graduated from Easton High School in 1960, and married her husband, Gerald Flewelling, who remained her life-long partner for 56 years.
Suzie is best known for her drive, determination and hard work. She worked tirelessly on the family farm with her husband and children. Whether she was driving a farm truck to the fertilizer plant, running for parts, or maneuvering a tractor through the field, she did so with enthusiasm and ease. She was always available when needed.
When not needed on the farm you could usually find her out on her lawnmower mowing any piece of ground she could find. There were days that lawns emerged where there had been swamps or woods in the morning. She often would mow the neighbor’s lawns “just to help out.” She loved a beautifully groomed lawn.
Suzie showed this same enthusiasm in the many activities she did for the community. She was a very active member of the Easton United Baptist Church where she served as the Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer for many years. She was always “behind the scenes” quietly serving by painting, cleaning and giving in her own special way. Suzie was also very active on several committees and organizations including Pioneer Girls, Cub Scouts and the church missionary ladies. For several years, she served as the Assistant Town Clerk, and later assisted at the voting polls.
The family will greatly miss her ability to make any activity fun. Her children and grandchildren will never forget the many fun outings and activities she always made for them. “Gram’s” place was the place to go. She and Jerry made special memories for the grandchildren on the many trips she organized to Disney World. They will always remember her fun-loving nature.
Suzie is survived by her husband, Gerald Flewelling; twin sons, Brian and his wife, Lynn (Blanchard) Flewelling, of Easton, and Bruce and his wife, Valorie (Dinsmore) Flewelling, of Easton. She also has two surviving daughters, Heidi and her husband, Shawn Keappler, of Oregon, WI, and Holly and her husband, Scott Dunning, of Hampden. Suzie will be missed by her 14 grandchildren: Lindsey, Jared and Jacob Flewelling, Joseph Carbone, Chelsea Hopkins and her husband, Mathew, Nicholas and Christopher Flewelling, Katherine, Alex, Mikayla and Benjamin Keappler, and Mackenzie, Zachary and Jack Dunning; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Abigail and Maggie. Suzie was a loving sister and is also survived by her sisters, Janice Bishop of Alberta, Canada, and Patsy Coffin of Fort Fairfield; and one brother, John Hoyt and his partner, Sharon Baker, of Bangor; as well as her very close sisters- and brothers-in-law, Carolyn (Flewelling) and Dennis Dodge, and Galen and Joan (Clark) Flewelling who recall many family gatherings and trips together.
Friends and family may call Thursday, April 16, 2015, from 12 – 2 p.m., at Faye Funeral Home, 5 Erskine St., Presque Isle.
