Ashland crowns queens
ASHLAND, Maine — On April 18, 12 young ladies competed for the titles of Tiny, Little and Pre-Teen Miss Ashland. The event was emceed by the talented Brandon Dorr, who recently played Mr. Hornsby in the Ashland District School production of “Band Geeks.” The girls competed in three categories — casual wear, talent and evening gown. Interviews were held several weeks prior.
Awards were presented as follows: Most Tickets Sold, Addison LaBelle; Most Ad Space Sold, Gwendolynn Eastman; Best Talent, Macy MacLean, performing an advanced gymnastics routine to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow;” Miss Congeniality, Callie Cullins and the Directors Award was presented to Abby Doughty.
Addison LaBelle was crowned Ashland’s 2015 Tiny Miss, with first runner-up awarded to Gwendolynn Eastman, second runner-up Isabella Montpetit, and third runner-up Ariannah Belanger. The Ashland 2015 Little Miss was awarded to Macy MacLean. Her court includes first runner-up Callie Cullins, second runner-up Kiah Albert, and third runner-up Angel Hafford.
Ashland’s Abby Doughty was crowned the 2015 Pre-Teen Miss, with Jennifer Darter awarded first runner-up, Kaitlyn Dotson second runner-up, and Brooklynn Stokes placing as third runner-up.
The following afternoon, the Teen Miss and Miss Ashland pageants were held. Pageant Director Jessica Nason-Eastman welcomed the contestants and audience members, making several more stage appearances throughout the pageant while also directing activities backstage. The very poised and lovely 2014 Miss Maine Audrey Thames emceed the event, which was her last official appearance as Miss Maine. What a wonderful honor to have such a positive role model spending time with our young ladies!
For the opening number, the girls danced onto the stage, followed by the casual wear portion of the competition. The visiting queens were introduced, each lovely and representing their towns proudly.
Alexis Dotson, competing in the Teen Miss pageant, opened the talent portion of the show with a dance routine to “Little Red Wagon” complete with a red wagon, cute sunglasses and boots. A very elegant Alexis Craig wowed the crowd with her singing talent.
The Miss Ashland contestants each performed a dance routine and didn’t disappoint. Jasmine Clark performed a lively hip-hop routine. Savannah Flint followed performing a beautifully fluid lyrical dance to the song “Halo.” Lacey Good entered the stage, dancing to the pop-reggae hit “Rude.”
The contestants then presented the evening gown division. Each girl was escorted to the stage by well-dressed gentlemen before participating in the final segment. The outgoing queens then gave their farewell speeches, each girl thanking their family and friends while also expressing their appreciation for the experience.
Awards were given in the following categories: Most Ticket Sales, Savannah Flint; Most Ad Space, Lacey Good; Most Photogenic (online/public vote) Jasmine Clark; Most Photogenic (Judges’ choice) Alexis Craig; Miss Congeniality, Savannah Flint; Directors Award, Alexis Dotson; Best Talent, Alexis Craig.
The crowning of the queens then took place with the following placement. Ashland Teen Miss 2015 was awarded to Alexis Craig with Alexis Dotson awarded first runner-up. Jasmine Clark was crowned the 2015 Miss Ashland. Lacey Good was the first runner-up and Savannah Flint placed as second runner-up. Congratulations to Miss Jessica and all of the young ladies participating in this year’s pageant.
