Magnet school executive director
to address NMCC grads
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Timothy Crowley, president of NMCC, has announced that the executive director of the Maine School of Science and Math (MSSM) will deliver NMCC’s commencement address during the ceremony on Saturday, May 16.
Luke Shorty is the first executive director of MSSM to have graduated from the residential magnet school in Limestone. The Maine native received his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from the University of Maine at Farmington and earned his master’s degree in mathematical science from Montana State University in Bozeman. He also studied film at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. His hobbies include hiking, camping and canoeing, and he is an inspirational and dynamic speaker.
NMCC Student of the Year Duska Kingsbury, of Mars Hill, will deliver the student address on behalf of the Class of 2015.
This year’s graduating class has 245 students: the largest group will graduate from the Trade and Technical Occupations Department. One hundred fourteen students will earn associate degrees in programs ranging from automotive collision repair and diesel hydraulics technology, to computer electronics and electrical construction and maintenance, to name just a few.
The second largest group will earn associate degrees in nursing and allied health with 75 graduates. This group includes nurses, community paramedics and medical assistants among other disciplines.
NMCC’s commencement will be held at The Forum in Presque Isle at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16. A reminder to those planning to attend, large bags will not be permitted inside the building and other bags will be subject to search by security.
