MARS HILL – Vernon Ford, 95, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2015. He was born March 8, 1920, in Mars Hill, a son of the late William Sidney and Anna Beatrice Currie Ford.
Vernon and Carolyn resided in Mars Hill most of their lives. After retirement from WASA and McConnell’s, they lived at Mars Hill. Most recently they were members of the United Baptist Church of Mars Hill and Faith Chapel, Blaine. He had a wonderful harmonizing voice and was often invited to sing in the choir; he loved the old hymns. Vernon was blessed with a good sense of humor, enjoyed his afternoon coffee and doughnut, and was thrilled when the Red Sox won the World Series. Having outlived most of his friends, he enjoyed reminiscing and remembering all the goodness he’d received in life. In his last years, he enjoyed drives in the country, out around the mountain, up to Presque Isle, etc. He was still able to identify practically every farm and family in the area.
He is survived by a brother, William S. Ford; his children, Charles (“Buzzy”) V. Ford, Jr., Laurie Norton, Teresa Ford O’Dwyer, Connie Welch, and Mary Jane Ford Ferris; 12 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn G. (Shaw) Ford; by brothers, Ralph E. Ford and Horace W. Ford; and sisters, Mary F. Bell, Wilma M. Dudley, and Glenna F. Pillsbury.
He would want to thank his many visitors and friends for the kindness that was shown him through these past years. Vernon was much appreciated for his gentle and humble spirit, his warm heart and friendly smile. He enjoyed the many visits from his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed.
A graveside service will be held in July, Rev. Ryan officiating. The time and date will be announced at a later date. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
