EASTON NEWS

by Hillary Hallett

On Monday, May 25, there will be a Memorial Day Service at the Veterans’ Memorial near the entrance of Easton High School at 10 a.m. Following the event at the monument there will be  a brief program at the bridge on Center Road (near downtown). This event is being sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Pattee-Page Post 187.

While reviewing the town’s past history for the Sesquicentennial year ,the group realized that is also 150 years since the end of the Civil War, with many men from Easton serving then, as well as many years following.  Please join the American Legion Auxiliary as they remember those who served our town, state and country.
NHS Sesquicentennial event
On May 2, the Easton NHS held a pie social and talent show in honor of Easton’s Sesquicentennial. During the pie social, donations were accepted to go toward cystic fibrosis research.
The talent show consisted of students from the NHS and the high school performing a variety of talents. The evening began with the senior Jazz Choir girls — Hannah Ferris, Abby Thompson, Kelsey Frank, Kristen West, and Kalie Ward — singing “Home”.  The next act was Nick Clark performing the “Evolution of Dance”, followed by Toria Tarbox singing “Hallelujah.” Hannah Ferris, Kelsey Frank, Kristen West, Kalie Ward, Madison Leach and Alex Allen danced to the Bella’s final number from the movie “Pitch Perfect.” Madison Shaw played “Fur Elise” on the piano. Emma Bonner and Breann Clayton sang and played guitar to “That’s What’s Up.” After that, Macey Currier danced to “Read All About It,” followed by Kalie Ward and Kelsey Frank singing “Heaven.” Hannah Ferris then played  “Scarborough Fair” on the guitar. Kristen West next performed a vocal selection called “Have a Nice Day.” The last talent of the night was a group of boys, including Connor Burtt, Nick Clark, Drew Sotomayor, Logan Halvorson, Cody Halvorson and Ian Sotomayor; they danced to “Soul Man.”
It was a an amazing show organized by Easton students and a great addition to the Sesquicentennial events!

Easton ATV Club

On Saturday, May 23, the Easton ATV Club will be building a new ATV bridge across the brook on the Fry Pan Road. This new structure will allow ATVers to get from Easton to Presque Isle, Mars Hill and all points south.
They need your help! They have collected all the supplies to build but need volunteers to help with the construction of this bridge.
It is important to the Club to make access to these areas for the people of Easton but it will also allow riders from other areas to support the town by buying gas and food. Remember, the more hands the quicker everyone can get riding. The trail master expects to have the work completed in two or three hours. Please report to the Fry Pan site at 8 a.m. on May 23.
For more information or to volunteer, call Donald Boxwell at 22-5995 or Barry Wolverton at 551-5224.
