Fort Fairfield Housing Authority receives HUD funds

FORT FAIRFIELD — In an effort to address emergency, safety and security needs, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $124,797 to the Fort Fairfield Housing Authority to help fight crime and drug activities at their public housing properties.

The funding announced May 18 is part of $6 million awarded nationwide to help secure public housing. The Fort Fairfield Housing Authority will use this funding to purchase a security camera system, doors, locks, lighting and fencing at Fields Lane and Hillcrest to improve security and monitoring.
HUD’s Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program supports public housing authorities as they address safety and security threats that pose a risk to the health and safety of public housing residents due to violent crimes or property-related crimes within the public housing community. These grants may be used to install, repair or replace capital needs items including security systems/surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.
“All Americans should feel secure when they’re at home,” said HUD Secretary Julián Castro. “These grants provide our local partners with new tools to enhance the strength and vitality of their neighborhoods. Now, more families will be able to walk to school, get to work and safely access opportunity.”
“This grant will allow the Fort Fairfield Housing Authority to make necessary improvements in and around their buildings to ensure families who live in public housing feel safe in their homes and immediate surroundings,” said HUD Maine Field Office Director William Burney.
