’Cat tennis preps for post-season

The Presque Isle tennis teams were scheduled to wrap up the regular season with a home match against Caribou Tuesday afternoon.

The Wildcats fell to the Vikings at Caribou last Wednesday, with the boys dropping a 3-2 decision and the girls falling 5-0.
The boys’ victories came in singles as Chase Norton blanked Michael Marquis, 8-0; and Chris Carroll doubled up on Ethan Plourde, 8-4.
On Friday, the Wildcats made a road trip and both Presque Isle squads bested Hermon while losing to John Bapst.
In the victory over the Hawks, the boys received wins from Norton and Carroll in singles and the doubles combinations of Denny Young-Alex Brewer and Colin Daigle-Isaac Madore. For the girls, the Wildcats forfeited both doubles matches, but Hilary Boucher, Michelle Cawley and Sarah Morneault all won their singles matches to give their team the win.
In the Heal Point standings, the Presque Isle boys went into their finale as the No. 6-ranked team in Eastern Maine Class B with an 8-3 record, while the girls stood at 6-5 and in ninth place.
The preliminary round of the playoffs is set for June 2, with the quarterfinals June 4 and the semifinals June 6.
The state singles tourney will be played Friday and Saturday at Colby College in Waterville, with Boucher and Norton set to compete for the Wildcats.
