A warranty deed was recorded Nov. 26, 2014, noting the sale of the property to Double K LLC. Buck Construction obtained permits in December for the construction of a 62-foot by 30-foot addition to the back of the structure, and a 10-by-30 canopy in the front, in addition to other renovations.
This is the second store for owner Kevin Kinney, who also operates one in the Caribou Plaza.
“There have been people inquiring about a store in Presque Isle. Save-A-Lot did a demographic study of the area to see if it would be feasible to open a new location, and at the same time, not take away from the Caribou store. The study came back with positive results, and then the MPG building became available,” said Kevin Kinney, owner of the Caribou store and the Presque Isle site.
Kinney said the building is 13,600 square feet and is being expanded to 16,100 square feet.
“I own the Caribou store. The Presque Isle facility is my second store in The County. I also have two other locations as well — one in Brewer and one in Farmington,” said Kinney.
According to Kinney, the new store will employ approximately 35 people.
“Save-A-Lot is the second largest chain in the country under one flag. We carry Grade A quality products at discounted prices. We have a limited assortment, however, we carry 95 percent of what people purchase on their weekly grocery run. We have fresh-cut meats daily, fresh produce, frozen and dairy,” Kinney said.
    Hours are: Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 760-9003.
