ASHLAND & BANGOR – Eddie Carney, 96, formerly of Ashland, died peacefully January 3, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born February 8, 1918, in Ashland, a son of the late Peter and Mary Ann (Beaulieu) Carney.
He served in the South Pacific region. Eddie worked as a Quality Control Technician with Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, CT, for several years before returning to his hometown of Ashland. He worked in the forestry and construction industry for many years. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post# 9699, Ashland, Eddie enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was a former parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Ashland, and enjoyed watching baseball, football and hockey games on television.
He is survived by two sons, Crawford Carney and his wife, Shirley of Mesa, AZ, and Keith Carney of Ashland, ME; one daughter, Kathy (Carney) Chandler of Caribou, ME; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; many nieces and seven nephews.
Besides the love of his life, his wife, Madeline (St. Louis) Carney, Eddie was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service with military honors was celebrated at 1 p.m., on Monday, June 1, 2015, at St. Joseph Cemetery, High St., in Old Town. There was no calling hours.
