Washburn District High School recognizes athletes

    WASHBURN, Maine — Washburn District High School winter sports awards were presented during a ceremony held April 6 at the Camille “Doc” Albert Gymnasium.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL — Special awards winners in varsity boys’ basketball at WDHS were Cameron Bragg, co-MVP; Noah Farley, most improved; and Jarrett Olson, co-MVP.

Audience members were welcomed by Athletic Director Ron Ericson before awards were passed out as follows:
JV girls’ basketball coach Andrew Churchill presented certificates to Macey Barker, Samantha Campbell. Makenzie Vaughn, Kathryn Easler, Mariah Davis, Jessica Aube, Kristen Sarmiento, Brittany Corey and Mikayla Churchill.
The choice for MVP was Corey, while Easler was named Most Improved Player and Davis  received the Coach’s Award.
JV boys’ basketball coach Michael Hartford gave out certificates to Konner Jordan, Dylan Hallyburton, Caleb Thompson, Keenan Jordan, Bryce Roix, Tyler Jardine, Gary Hewitt, Justin Davis, Kevin Jordan and Benton Plante.
The co-MVPs were Davis and Thompson, while Jardine came away with Most Improved Player.
Cheerleading coaches Heather Bragg and Michaela Bragg issued certificates to Takayla Nay and Brianna Jernigan, letters to Abigail Conroy, Amber Dubois and Danielle Thompson; and pins to Tiffany Bragg, Marienna Bragg, Jacqueline McCarthy, Kaylee Doody, Kelsey Farr, Marianne Helton, Tabatha McLaughlin and Brooklyn Plummer.
Earning three-year letter awards were McCarthy and Helton. Marienna Bragg was the MVP, McLaughlin was Most Improved and Farr claimed the Coach’s Award.
Boys’ varsity basketball coach Randy Norsworthy handed out a letter to Dylan Hallyburton and pins to Michael Ericson, Kenny Irving, Noah Farley, Brandon Cropley, Derek Baker, Cameron Bragg, Alex Pelletier, McCall Turner, Cameron Preston, Jarrett Olson, Caleb Thompson, Parker Thompson, Noah Caron and manager Owen James.
Three-year letter awards went to Olson, Baker, Caron, Cropley, Parker Thompson and Pelletier.
All-Aroostook players honored were Bragg and Olson. They also shared MVP honors, while Farley was the Most Improved Player.
A slide show produced by Washburn girls’ varsity basketball coach Diana Trams was shown with highlights from the girls and boys basketball season.
Trams and assistant coach Scott Olson then presented girls’ basketball awards.
Earning certificates were Barker, Davis, Vaughn and Easler. Pins went to managers Owen James and Kaitlyn Maynard and players Emilia Churchill, Mikayla Churchill, Aube, Natalie Doody, Mackenzie Worcester, Sarmiento, Joan Overman, Laina Mette, Grace Braley and Corey.
Third-year letter awards winners were Doody, Mette, Emilia Churchill and Braley.
Mackenzie Worcester and Joan Overman were honored for making the All-Aroostook team and the two shared MVP honors as well.
The Coach’s Award recipient was Emilia Churchill and the Most Improved Player was Mette.
Also during the ceremony, special thank-you recognition went to Kolbie Churchill, Julie Doody and Phil Mills for their contributions.
Worcester received a placard, ball and plaque for her achievement of scoring 2,000 points during her career.
Varsity letter jackets were presented to Tiffany Bragg, Kaylee Doody, Irving and Preston.
