Aroostook County Action Program recently received a $1,000 gift from KeyBank Foundation to help fund the purchase of laptops for our Early Head Start Home Visitor Program. “This funding will be used to help fund our Early Head Start Home Visitors with mobile wireless laptops,” explained Sue Powers, ACAP Family Services Senior Manager. “The laptops will provide them immediate access to family health and educational records and family-support tools so they can respond quickly with vital and time-sensitive information for up to 75 low-income rural families with children under the age of three. We are very grateful for this support from KeyBank Foundation.”
Home visitors provide services countywide and have a caseload of 10-12 families with 34-36 children at a time. They are committed to helping parents understand they are their child’s first teacher. In addition to parenting skills, visitors work with families to discuss goals and plan to achieve them. The laptops will increase their level of access to respond to clients’ basic living needs and improve their self-sufficiency.
“When peoples’ livelihoods and well-being are at stake, it’s important that the community comes together to make a difference by developing and supporting programs and organizations that create pathways for prosperity,” said Cheri Doak, KeyBank senior vice president, Maine market. “Through its Early Head Start Home Visitors Program, ACAP does this every day, and we are proud to support them in their effort to aid at-risk families across Aroostook County.”
KeyBank supports communities through the KeyBank Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1969 and funded by KeyCorp. The foundation’s mission is to support organizations and programs that prepare individuals for thriving futures.
