Elks offer junior golf
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — It is still not too late for young people entering grades 4-8 next fall to sign up for Elks Junior Golf Program at the Presque Isle Country Club. Prior to the official start of the program on Sunday, June 21, a second sign-up meeting will be held on Sunday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at PICC.
Alan Harding, Exalted Ruler of Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, said it’s easy to participate in the golf program.
“A young person is not required to have anything except a desire to learn the game of golf,” he said. “Golf equipment and balls will be made available to any young person who does not have their own. Golf instruction will be provided by Barry Madore, the pro at the Presque Isle Country Club, along with his assistant, without charge. Greens fees will not be charged to participants.”
For any young person who wishes to learn the game of golf this summer but need transportation to the country club, the Presque Isle Elks will arrange for a ride. Transportation to the initial meeting can also be obtained by calling the Presque Isle Elks Lodge at 764-0985.
“This year the Presque Isle Elks, with assistance from the Elks National Foundation, are insuring that any young person who has the desire to learn the game of golf will be able to do so. That young person simply needs to have a parent call the Elks Lodge at 764-0985 and provide the name and address [of the participant],” said Madore, who is also a member of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge.
