’Cat middle school boys take Countys

CARIBOU, Maine The Viking girls and Presque Isle Wildcat boys turned in dominating performances at the Aroostook League Championships in middle school track and field, held May 27.

The Caribou girls scored 118 points to defeat second-place Valley Rivers Middle School of Fort Kent, which posted 45, and three other teams. The PI boys tallied 106.5 points and finished ahead of Fort Fairfield (55.5), Valley Rivers and Caribou.
The winning teams also featured the top individual scorers. Paige Espling of Caribou scored 26 points to claim the girls’ title, while Trace Cyr of Presque Isle had 28 to take first among boys.
Girls’ individual event winners included Union 122’s Hollie McDougal in the shot put (28 feet, 2 inches), Caribou’s Briana Reece in the discus (67 feet), Espling in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), Fort Kent’s Lacy Pelletier in the long jump (12 feet, 6-1/4 inches), Fort Kent’s Dolcie Tanguay in the 100 hurdles (19.79 seconds) and the 1,600 (6:08.66), Fort Fairfield’s Annika Reynolds in the 100 (14.31), Fort Kent’s 4×100 relay team (59.78), Caribou’s Willow Whitten in the 400 (1:08.51), Fort Fairfield’s Jessica Halsey in the 800 (2:44.01), Caribou’s Emma Hixon in the 200 (30.46) and Caribou’s 4×200 relay team of Abbie Caron, Chelsea Levesque, Reece and Kimmy Susi (2:10.94).
Boys’ winners were Cyr in the shot put (34 feet, 11 inches), the 400 (58.93) and the 100 (12.3); Caribou’s Zack Gerakaris in the discus (103 feet, 11 inches), Fort Fairfield’s Jonah Daigle in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches), the long jump (16 feet, 10 inches) and the 100 hurdles (15.87); Fort Kent’s Caleb McNaughton in the 1,600 (5:20.92), Fort Fairfield’s 4×100 relay team of Daigle, Wyatt Keegan, Soloman Daigle and Trevor Graves (55.4), Fort Kent’s Joshua Stanley in the 800 (2:27.17), Fort Fairfield’s Soloman Daigle in the 200 (27.4) and Fort Kent’s 4×200 relay team (2:04.6).
Individually for girls, Tanguay was second with 18 points and Hixon followed with 15.5. On the boys’ side, Jonah Daigle was second with 26 and PI’s Kyler Caron was third with 24.
