Daigle, Overman earn C track titles
The state meets culminated the track and field season for the Caribou Vikings, Presque Isle Wildcats, Fort Fairfield Tigers, Washburn Beavers and Limestone-MSSM Eagles.
The competitions took place Saturday, with Class B teams in Bath and Class C teams in Yarmouth.
For Class B boys, Caribou’s Dominic Judd won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.01 seconds, 1.91 faster than Old Town’s Charles Mood. Judd was also the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.35, just 1/100th of a second behind York’s Colt Santoro for the top spot.
Mitchell St. Peter won the title in the 1,600 racewalk with a time of 7:06.62, approximately 7.5 seconds ahead of runner-up Billy Chambers of Waterville. Evan Desmond and Bryce Coffin were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Judd teamed with Richard Newland, Elijah Verhoff and St. Peter to score points in the 4×400 relay as the foursome was sixth in 3:42.83.
Caribou scored 33 points overall to take sixth place out of 25 teams.
In Class B girls, the Presque Isle Wildcats’ Tori Koch took third in the 100 in 13.03 seconds, fifth in the 400 in 1:03.11 and sixth in the 200 in 27.08 seconds.
Teammate Regan Nelson placed in a pair of throwing events. She was third in the shot put with a mark of 33 feet, 1/4 inches and fifth in the discus at 96 feet, 3 inches.
Caribou’s Simona Amerio was third in the 1,600 racewalk in 9:15.72 and teammates Emma Belyea and Kendra Furber also generated points by placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Wildcat girls placed 10th out of 27 teams with 20 points, while Caribou was 22nd with nine points.
At the Class C boys’ meet, Caleb Daigle of Fort Fairfield was the local standout as he took the 200 in 23.33 seconds and was fourth in the 400 in 53.1 seconds
Limestone-MSSM’s Cole Butler won the javelin with a throw covering 171 feet, 9 inches and Eagle teammate Grier Osterman was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 42.48 seconds.
In the team scores, the Tigers and Eagles each tallied 14 to tie for 15th place out of 30 teams.
Joan Overman’s victory in the long jump, with a mark of 17 feet, 9.25 inches, and second-place finish in the 100, with a time of 12.63 seconds, led Washburn in the C girls’ meet.
Haley Taranko of Limestone-MSSM managed a seventh-place finish in the 1,600 racewalk in 9:23.63.
The Beavers scored 18 points to tie for third in the overall standings for girls.
