18 graduate from adult ed
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — MSAD 1 Adult Education commencement exercises were held May 27, 2015, with 18 students receiving their diplomas.
Class Marshal Kathleen Hart led 14 participating graduates into the Presque Isle High School auditorium to receive their high school and HiSET diplomas.
LeRae Kinney, director of MSAD 1 Adult Education, welcomed the nearly 100 in attendance. Amy Murphy, owner of Amy’s Flowers in Presque Isle, addressed the graduates. Grace Rowland gave the invocation and Taliana Ricker was the class speaker. Presque Isle Middle School eighth-grade student Macy Kinney sang the national anthem and “The Climb.” Noah Garrison, a PIHS sophomore, assisted with the lights and sound system.
Hart received the “Outstanding Student” award and a student recognition award went to Ricker. Jim Bubar of the Presque Isle Rotary Club presented a $500 scholarship to Winona Christnot-Peters.
Lorette Doody was named Teacher of the Year. Christopher Powers received a five-year teacher service pin. Donna Nelson was honored for 15 years of service and Brian Ross for 40 years of service. Special retirement gifts went to Diane Sites, Mary Jo Badger and Jennifer Johnson.
Dr. Gehrig Johnson, superintendent, and Kinney presented the graduates with their diplomas and Lucy Richard, chairperson of the MSAD 1 Board of Directors, presented the charge to the graduating class.
