Scouts hold closing ceremony
MAPLETON NEWS

Mapleton Cadette Girl Scout Troop 1133 ended its seventh year together with a barbecue dinner and closing awards ceremony.
The event was held at the Mapleton United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 11. Following the barbeque in the fellowship hall, the group moved downstairs to the sanctuary where the girls were introduced one by one. Those in attendance saluted the American flag, and then the Scouts recited the Girl Scout Promise.
Co-Leaders Nancy Winslow and Laurie Amero led the girls in the “Nickname Ceremony,” where each of the girls had a nickname “bestowed” upon them. Mrs. Winslow pinned each of them with a personalized nickname pin on their uniform vest. The troop then sang the Girl Scout version of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.”
Troop member Amanda Winslow wrote a special skit specifically for this ceremony that the troop performed, titled, “Going on a trip with the Girl Scouts.” Co-leader Jennifer Buzza presented the girls with a community service patch for placing American flags at the gravesites of our local veterans and a Cadette membership star. Amanda Winslow was presented with the GSME Augusta, Maine State Capital Patch that she had earned on her own with her family. The ceremony concluded with the girls singing a song several of them learned at Girl Scout Camp, called “The Shark Song.”
