Reed Plummer sees wish come true
WASHBURN NEWS
by Beth Boddy
Saturday, June 6 was a dream day for one very special boy in Washburn. Reed Plummer had been diagnosed with cancer and had been making regular trips to Portland for chemo and radiation treatment. Through Maine’s Make A Wish Foundation, Reed had wished for an AlienWaregaming computer system. On that day, Reed’s wish along with some extra came true.
VIP Auto Parts started off the day by posing a fundraiser for Reed. This got Reed and his family out of Washburn while his actual wish was being set up. At Washburn Elementary School, a surprise Alien-themed party was being set up for Reed. Steve Boddy of Washburn, along with assistance from employees of Virtual Managed Solution of Caribou, set up a huge screen along with several large monitors and Xbox machines all connected together so Reed and his friends could all play the same game together at his party. Boddy also set up music and DJ lights to complete the effect.
All of Reed’s friends and family members, along with Make a Wish of Maine, gathered at the school to wait for Reed and his family, who had no idea what was about to happen. Reed arrived in a limo and walked into the Washburn Elementary Gym to a big cheer of surprise.
Reed had many presents to open, including his brand new AlienWare laptop, a large monitor, external hard drive and other peripherals. He also received $200 in gift cards from Amazon and $490 in Dell gift cards. Reed had the best party he ever had, and his family was grateful to see him having so much fun. Reed was found to be cancer-free in October 2014 and after that day this was the best he’s had so far.
