Easton High School celebrates graduation accomplishments

Baccalaureate

    The local clergy conducted baccalaureate services June 7 at Easton Junior-Senior High School.  Participating were Pastor Jason Coffman from the Easton Wesleyan Church, Pastor Greg Jackson from the United Baptist Church, Pastor Granville Lamb with the New Song Church and Pastor Carlos DaCruz from the Pine Tree Baptist Church.

Lamb gave the baccalaureate address.

Class night

    Class night was held June 10 at Easton Junior-Senior High School.
Senior Marshals Kylee Carter and Kelsey Frank escorted all four classes into the gymnasium.  Accompanist Pamela Kinsey provided the “Pomp and Circumstance.”  Class president remarks were made by Katelyn White (Class of 2018), Jacob Flewelling (Class of 2017) and Blake Bradley (Class of 2016).
Nicholas Clark, Cody Embelton, Madison Leach and Kristen West gave class gifts. Nichole Dudley, Cody Halvorson, Hannah Ferris and Abigail Thompson presented the class history.
The faculty made presentations to students who achieved the highest level of proficiency across the curriculum. Kinsey presented All-Aroostook awards for chorus to Frank, Ferris, Macey Currier, Katelyn White and Ryan West. Isabelle Morin and Katelyn White received the All-Aroostook band award.
The District Jazz Choir solo certificate was presented to Ferris. The State Jazz Choir solo certificate was presented to Ferris, who also received the State Jazz Choir outstanding musician award. The recipients of the Outstanding Musician Award were Ferris and Frank.
A first-year letter with lyre pin was presented to Connor Burtt, Carter and Kristen West. A second-year treble clef pin was presented to Ferris and Halvorson. A third-year ribbon medal was awarded to Frank.  The band award went to Burtt. The jazz choir award was presented to Ferris.
Polly Tateishi presented the Grade 9 writing award to White and 11/12 English award to Sean Coffman. Darren West presented social studies awards to Emma Bonner for College U.S. History II, Zachary Hammond for Tech Prep U.S. History II, Bonner for Street Law and Government, Taylor Howe for Psychology, White for World History, Flewelling for College U.S. History I and Connor Bragg for Apex French I.
Paul Sutherland presented math awards to Summer Guess for Algebra I, White for Geometry, Flewelling for Algebra II, Madison Leach for Advanced Math, Ashley Hersey for Physics and Alexandra Allen for Math Team. He also presented the May Student of the Month Award to Leach.
Jane Hutchison presented the art awards. The Art I award was presented to Logan Halvorson, the Art II award to Allen and the Art III award to Brian Corbin.
Bryan Wright presented the following science awards; Earth Science to White, Computer Applications to Breann Clayton, Tech Prep Chemistry to Brandon Hosford and Human Anatomy to Hersey.
Julio Morin awarded pins to the following Spanish students; Spanish I — White, Abigail Currier, Matthew Poole, Elise Allen and Clayton, Spanish II — Flewelling, Spanish III —Bonner and Spanish I — Leach.
Bryan Shaw presented Physical Education “all-around athlete awards” to freshmen Delia Bonner and Collin Sotomayor and sophomores Abigail Currier and Corbin. The health awards were presented to White and Bragg. The Lifetime Sports Awards were presented to Madison Shaw and Burtt.
Melissa Smith presented the English I award to White and English II award to Currier. The Grade 11 British Literature award went to Bonner and the Grade 12 British Literature award to Hersey. Smith also recognized the following members of the Student Council with certificates: Hersey, Burtt, Clark, Blake Bradley, Logan Halvorson, Drew Sotomayor, Flewelling, Hunter Brown, Currier, White, Noah Hanscomb and Matthew Poole.
Pamela Murchison presented the following business education awards: desktop publishing to Frank, personal finance to Leach and Accounting I, Marketing and Excel to Arnett. Carter received the yearbook editor award and Joshua Gilman was the recipient of the award for economics.
Ellen Trask presented the college biology award to Elise Allen. Arnett was the recipient of the environmental studies award and Zachary Hammond received the tech prep biology award. Envirothon Team 1 members who placed third at the regional competition were Hosford, Arnett, Abigail Thompson, Leach and Shawn Doody. Envirothon Team 2 members who placed second at the regional competition, fifth place at the state competition and first in the state current issue were Caitlin Monroe, Kristen West, Bradley and Taylor Brown.
Principal Cameron Adams presented the Maine Principals’ Award to Alexandra Allen. The Phi Beta Kappa Maine Academic Achievement Award went to Bonner. The Willis A. McPherson Award was presented to Corbin and Alexandra Allen received the Outstanding School Citizen Award.

Bottle drive

    The Spanish Club would like to inform the people of Easton about their bottle drive July 5-8. Four Daughters will have a trailer parked at Easton High School for dropoffs or people can call 551-0929 and give their address and the group will gladly pick up any returnables.

High school library hours

    Did you know that the Easton High School Library is a public library and anyone from town can get a library card with proof of residency. The below hours are subject to change; July 1, 2, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 and Aug. 4, 7, 13 and 15 from 8 a.m.-noon.

2015 All School Reunion scheduled for Friday, July 10

    There will be a social time at Easton High School from 2-4 p.m. Come and enjoy time exploring the building and visiting with old friends from near and far. Refreshments will be served.
The All School Reunion dinner will take place at Easton Elementary School at 6 p.m. with great food, friends and entertainment. There will also be many door prizes with local flair!

Kiwanis meetings

    Kiwanis Club of Easton meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall and every is welcome to attend. Dinner is provided for a small fee.

Upcoming recreation department activities

    Baton Camp will be held on July 6, 7, 9 and 10 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Hall. The cost is $20 and the program is open to ages 5 and up. Northstar Twirlers will be teaching basic baton twirling and routine.  Batons are provided.
Horse Camp will be offered on July 20, 21, 23 and 24 from 12:15-1:15 p.m. for beginners; 1:15-2:30 p.m. for intermediate riders and 2:30-3:45 p.m. for advanced riders. The cost is $30. The camp will be held at  Rocking S Ranch for those who have completed grades 2 and up.

Dutch Soccer Camp at EHS boys soccer field is from 2-4:30 p.m.

Minor League game at home against Mars Hill at 5:30 p.m.
Friday, July 3 — No recreation activities and town office closed in observation of 4th of July.
Sunday, July 5 — Co-ed softball games at 4, 5 and 6 p.m.
Monday, July 6 — Summer Day Camp from 9 a.m.-noon at the Hall.  Strawberry picking is the featured activitiy. The cost is $3.
Senior Salads Day at the Manor at 11 a.m. The cost is $3.
Swimming from 12:40-3:15 p.m., departs from the Hall.
Baton camp from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Hall. Pre-registration required.
Weight Watchers class at 5:30 p.m. at the elementary school.

Tuesday, July 7 — Summer Day Camp from 9 a.m.-noon at the Hall. Today’s theme will be Halloween, so please come in costume.

Wednesday, July 8 — field trip to Water Wizard Slides from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost is $13.
