U.S. Cellular donates $5,000 for STEM programming

PRESQUE ISLE — U.S. Cellular recently donated $5,000 to the Penobscot Boys & Girls Club on behalf of the Presque Isle Unit for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programming. This donation is part of U.S. Cellular’s $1.25 million national commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the National 4-H Council.

This commitment will enhance the learning experience for youth and communities by championing K-12 and STEM educational programs. The Penobscot Boys & Girls Club-Presque Isle Unit serves more than 106 youth in Presque Isle, and this focused approach ensures the company is positively impacting the communities where associates work, live and play.
“As a national wireless company driven by innovative technology, it’s a natural fit we focus on STEM programming as it helps develop our future associate base,” said Matt Kasper, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in New England. “We are excited to engage with our communities through a variety of volunteer opportunities that Boys & Girls Clubs and 4-H Clubs have in big and small cities and rural communities across the country.”
To celebrate these new relationships, U.S. Cellular employees participated in April’s National Volunteer Month with the company’s first “Month of Giving” program. As part of the initiative, the company announced a goal of 30,000 volunteer hours to complete by the end of the year. By collaborating with local Boys & Girls Clubs and 4-H Clubs, U.S. Cellular associates will impact communities through a myriad of volunteer efforts including mentorship, club clean-up days, and STEM-focused opportunities.
“We’re excited U.S. Cellular shares our commitment to helping youth and advancing our education/STEM efforts,” said Nicole Francis, club director at the Penobscot Boys & Girls Club-Presque Isle Unit.
