PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The staff of the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s literary journal have announced the publication of the spring 2015 issue.
This issue of Upcountry includes returning contributors as well as those who are new writers to the journal’s pages. The issue came together under student editor Jessica Edney and journal adviser Dr. Melissa Crowe.
“We’re thrilled to report that since re-launching the journal in 2011, we’ve put out six consecutive issues, and we could not be prouder of this new one,” Crowe said. “We’re getting better at what we do, and Upcountry’s reputation with readers and contributors is growing, making it easier and easier to consistently put out top-quality work.”
Dedicated to showcasing poems, short stories, personal essays and visual art from the campus community, Upcountry is a publication of the UMPI English Program.
The latest issue includes the work of 11 poets and writers. Works range from Alice Bolstridge’s poem “Through the Heart of the Awl” and Derek Boudreau’s story “It Happened on Meteor Lake,” to Hannah Brilliant’s poem “Green Alchemy” and Amanda Stevens’ story “Summer Storm.” Renee Moore’s painting “Longing for Something More” graces the cover.
