Patriotic road race at Presque Isle middle school offers challenge to runners

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — While 5K races are becoming more common throughout The County, runners who want to take on a more challenging road race have had few local opportunities to do so. The new Freedom Run being held on Saturday, July 11 offers runners the chance to face that challenge through both a 5K and Aroostook’s only 10K course.

The Freedom Run not only offers a challenge for the more serious runners, but it is a fun event for the whole family. The event includes a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, which takes place entirely on the Presque Isle Middle School track; a 5K (3.1 mile) run or walk; and the 10K (6.2 mile) run. The 5K and 10K events both start, then travel through a flat and fast route through the Presque Isle Industrial Park before ending back on the track. The 5K participants will complete one loop of the route, while the 10K runners will complete the loop twice.
Registration on event day is from 7-8 a.m., with the kids fun run beginning at 8:15 a.m., and the 5K/10K events beginning at 9 a.m.
This is a fully supported running race, with an event athletic shirt (first 100 entrants) and a finisher’s medal for all participants.
Entry is $20 per person for the 5K and 10K events, and $5 for the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, with increased pricing on the day of the event.
The Freedom Run is a part of the CompetitorME Distance Race Series and the County Fit and Fun Series and also marks the culmination of TAMC’s  Community Couch to 5K program that has been underway for a number of weeks.
