CARIBOU, Maine — The Future Stars regional track meet was held June 30 at Caribou High School, with the top four finishers in each event qualifying for the Maine Recreation and Parks Association state finals to be held July 14 in Bangor.
Three hundred and forty seven athletes representing Ashland, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Houlton, Madawaska, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Van Buren and Washburn participated along with the hosts.
The Future Stars competition replaces the Hershey Track and Field program, which ended last summer. The new format is similar, but has added a pair of age groups (for 7-8 year-olds and 15 year-olds) and does not feature a national/world competition beyond the state meet like the Hershey program did.
