To the editor:
I just could not let this week go by without paying tribute to the many, many volunteers who helped out with Ride Aroostook over the weekend of July 11-12. There were young people, seniors, high school students, families, so many volunteers I would not attempt to name them all and I would not want to miss a single one.
Everyone agreed that it was a great Ride, made even more special by our wonderful volunteers. We simply could not do the Ride without them. The cyclists, mostly from outside of The County, had very positive comments about the friendliness and helpfulness of the volunteers. Isn’t that just the County way.
Aroostook has a unique quality about people willing to give of themselves for the greater good. The goal of Ride Aroostook is to help children with Type 1 diabetes by supporting Camp Adventure, a summer camp for these children ages 12–17.
The camp is a life-changing experience for the children and their families as they learn to self-manage their diabetes and enjoy Maine’s great outdoors. Volunteers, you are changing lives. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!
