Retired educators to meet in Presque Isle Tuesday

        The Aroostook Retired Education Association (AREA) will meet Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Edmunds Center on the Northern Maine College Center campus in Presque Isle.

Registration will be at 11 a.m. with a buffet luncheon to be served at noon. The cost of the meal is $13.

        Lunch will be followed by the program featuring guest presenter, Dottie Sines. The business meeting will follow and will include the presentation of the slate of officers for the next two years.

        AREA will continue to collect canned goods and nonperishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. The Association is also be participating in the annual “Day of Caring.” The project of this three-year cycle is the “Bulging Backpack” project which involves filling a backpack with school supplies and donating it to an area school. Last year’s backpack was presented to the Mill Pond School in Hodgdon, ME., representing the southern section of Aroostook. A school in the central section and a school in the northern section will be recipients this year and next.

        Donations for both projects may be brought to the August meeting.

        AREA membership dues are $7 and all retired educators are encouraged to join. Valuable information is shared, friendships are renewed, the community projects are greatly appreciated, and laughter is encouraged.
