Washburn class holds 50th reunion

Attending the 50th reunion of the Class of 1965 from Washburn District High School were, from left, front: Penny Maynard Miller, Joyce Drost Pinette, Judy Tingley Tisdale, Bonnie Tarr Todd, Diane Lavway Hemphill, Sandra Fitch Bowles, Carol Scott  Francis, Cynthia Hallowell Curry, Erika Bull Flewelling, Suzanne Foster King, Diane James Wilcox, Lorraine Everett Tarr, Lois Knox Rutan, Carolyn Flewelling O’Donnell, Myrna McGaffin (English Teacher) and Anna Thompson Bragg.  Back row,  Robert Doak, Deryle Sponberg, Mike Tilley, Jr., Kempton Philbrook, Marvin McBreairty, Raymond Baker, Larry Wilcox, Dwight Helstrom, Lyman Sperrey, Loren Sperrey, Boyd Johnson, Dwayne Dow, Denny Clark, Larry Theriault, and Stephen Southard.  Unable to attend were Richard Bragg, Carl Charette, Claude Charette, Carol Cookingham Belanger, Anne Crouse, Roger Daigle, Richard Farley, Russell Gregg, Bonnie Haynes Sands, Dianna Jacobs, Donald Peary, Dana Pike, Lois Spooner Stoddard, Wallace Tupper and Linda Ward Gooch.

    The 50 year reunion of Washburn District High School’s class of 1965 was held Aug. 15 at the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center.

    A social hour was followed by dinner. After dinner, a tribute to classmates who have passed away was conducted. The deceased classmates include Alice Bondeson, Robert Cameron, Richard Howe, Ada Larsen, Carl Olson, Kermit Pooler, Winnifred Thompson and James White.
Gifts were given for “Longest Married,” “Most Times Married,” “Most Recently Married,” “Guy with Most Hair,” “Guy with Least Hair,” “Traveled Farthest,” “Lives Closest to WDHS,” and “Most Household Pets.”
A grand door prize of a watercolor painting created and donated by Sandra Fitch Bowles was given.
The reunion committee included Cynthia Hallowell Curry, Bonnie Tarr Todd, Carolyn Flewelling O’Donnell, Erika Bull Flewelling and Diane Lavway Hemphill.
The class attended the Alumni Banquet at Washburn High School on Aug. 14 and received the trophy for Best Float in the Washburn Festival Parade on Aug.15.
