slated on Labor Day

CARIBOU, Maine A pair of running events with a long tradition are slated for Monday at Caribou High School.

The Caribou Labor Day Road Race will be held Sept. 7, 2015, with the walkers setting off at 10:30 a.m. and the runners at 11 a.m.
The walkers will use a five-kilometer course, while the runners will do an 8K. The race is the final one in the County Challenge Racing Series. Contact Chris Smith at christopher.smith@maine.edu for more information.
A little earlier, the Aroostook Federal Saving and Loan Viking Run will be held at the CHS track on Labor Day Monday Sept. 7.
Registration for the 10 separate children’s races begins at 8 a.m. and the actual races get underway at 9 a.m. Runners from age 2 through the eighth grade are encouraged to attend.
Pre-K and kindergarten runners compete in a quarter-mile run, the first-, second-, third- and fourth-graders in a half-mile run and fifth-, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders in a one-mile run.
There will be trophies for the top three male and female finishers in each race. Ribbons and T-shirts will be awarded to all the young athletes who take part.
The event is co-sponsored by the Caribou High School cross country running team.
