The Presque Isle and Washburn cross country teams made the annual trip to Ellsworth for an invitational meet, while the Beavers also hosted other Class C teams for a competition earlier in the week.
The Wildcats came in seventh place with 192 points. Senior Jason Bartley was the fastest PI racer as he came in 15th place in 18:48.4. Trace Cyr, a freshman for the ’Cats, was 38th in 20:38.18.
Emilia Churchill of Washburn was the only female County athlete to be named All-Aroostook in two different sports this fall. She earned honors in both cross country and Class D girls’ soccer.

For fifth-place Washburn, Derek Baker came in 17th place in 18:56.75. Devon Maynard had a strong showing by placing 27th in 19:48.9. A total of 85 runners took part.
Orono was the race winner and John Hassett of George Stevens the individual champion in 16:40.9.
George Stevens dominated the girls’ race with a low score of 42 and Orono, behind race winner Hannah Steelman (19:14.36) was second with 64. For seventh-place Presque Isle, freshman Madison Jandreau came in 14th place out of 69 runners with a time of 22:46.24. Senior Emily Colligan of the Wildcats was 29th in 23:56.16 and classmate Alyssa Sweeney took 38th in 25:29.45.
PI was without one of its top runners in senior Mandy Graham, who had a family obligation and could not attend.
Washburn’s Emilia Churchill led her squad by placing 17th in 22:59.96. She was the only Beaver runner competing.
At Washburn last Wednesday, in the first meet of the season held in Aroostook County, the host Beavers won the boys’ race and MSSM claimed the girls’ title. Houlton, Fort Kent and Greater Houlton Christian Academy were the other schools competing on the 2.8-mile course.
Isaiah Brown of Houlton bested Baker by a margin of 50 seconds to win the boys’ event. Brown had a winning time of 16:20.
Maynard and McCall Turner also fashioned top-10 performances for Washburn.
Rylee Warman, also of Houlton, beat GHCA’s Grace Graham by a mere three second in the girls’ race. Warman crossed the line in 20:04.
Churchill came in fifth place and Kasie Farley was seventh to lead the way for Washburn.
The local teams will join a few others from Eastern Maine for Saturday’s Presque Isle Invitational, which begins at 1 p.m.
