The Presque Isle golf team’s regular season began Friday in a three-team match at Pine Hill Golf Club in Brewer, with junior Hunter Flynn claiming medalist honors with a 37.
Senior Gannon Therrien of the Wildcats scored a 44, followed by junior John Saucier with a 48. Freshman Seth Roy carded a 52 in his varsity debut, while junior Ian Tuttle had a 54 as PI totaled 181 strokes to finish behind both John Bapst (171) and Caribou (175).
Presque Isle resumes its schedule Friday as the Wildcats play at Houlton in a match beginning at 4 p.m.
The Fort Fairfield Tigers are off to a 1-1-1 start. Last Wednesday at home, FF claimed a victory over Central Aroostook, outscoring the Panthers in match points, 9.5 to 1.5.
Jon Bernard had the Tigers’ low round with a 46, with Carter Bruce coming in with a 50. Shane Stackpole of CA notched a 45 to grab medalist honors.
The Panthers also meet Southern Aroostook Aug. 31 and were beaten, 6.5-4.5. Despite the loss, Stackpole again had the low round with a 44.
In a home and away series against Hodgdon played in late August, FF lost on the road, 7-2, before tying at home, 5.5-5.5. Ben Tuttle of the Hawks was the medalist both times with identical 39s.
Southern Aroostook pays a visit to AVCC this afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. match to take on the Tigers, while Central Aroostook goes to VaJoWa in Island Falls Thursday to meet up against the Warriors. Fort Fairfield is at Mars Hill Coun try Club Friday to take on Central Aroostook, again at 3:30 p.m.
