Governor’s offers exciting dining experience
Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery opened in downtown Presque Isle in January 1997. Tony and Sherry Sullivan were ambitious and ready to work hard, even with four children at home — the youngest only four months old at the time.
After many renovations to the existing building and all kinds of new equipment, it was time to open the doors and start this new adventure and what an adventure it has been.
Aroostook County has been very good to their business and they have many to thank for the success, including repeat customers, the wonderful staff and the support and encouragement of the Governor’s Management Co. — the Wadleigh family — and of course, their own family.
They have seen many changes in 18 years — two additions to the building, new and exciting menu items, and their four children have grown up to work in the business with their parents, working their way through high school and college.
They have also had to learn to compete in an ever changing market by resisting the urge to fall into the old adage “because that’s the way it’s always been done!”
One of the exciting services that Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery in Presque Isle now offers is catering. It is amazing how this service has grown and what a need there is in the community for this service. They took on catering for the 2014 Junior World Cup Biathlon by preparing approximately 12,000 additional meals out of the Governor’s kitchen over a 10-day period for athletes from all over the world, all the while providing the same exceptional service to loyal customers. They also have catered numerous weddings, business meetings, luncheons and Christmas parties.
“It’s always rewarding when we can do the work for someone else and make their event special,” said Tony Sullivan.
Tony and Sherry are looking forward to many more years in downtown Presque Isle and can’t wait to see what new and exciting changes and adventures await.
