To the editor:
Do you like to be out in nature? Do you like to learn useful life skills such as cooking, swimming, first aid and many others? Do you like to be with your friends? If you like any of these things, you might be interested in joining the Boy Scouts of America.
The Boy Scouts of America, or B.S.A. for short, is meant to help develop young boys into fine men. It starts from around age 12 and continues to age 18. It teaches you many skills to help you survive in the wild. These skills are in the form of merit badges. There are first aid, plant identification, wilderness survival, and others. If you’re not into the outdoors, there are some technological merit badges including digital technology, electronics, and computer programming.
I am 13, I go to Scouts in Washburn and I have a wonderful time. The Washburn Boy Scouts have a meeting every Thursday at 7 p.m. through 8:30 p.m., located at the clubhouse on the Scout Rd. in Washburn. This year, they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the troop, by hosting the Fall Camporee on Sept. 18, 19 and 20 in Washburn. It will be based on 1960’s Scouting and the differences between now and then.
There will be many troops coming, and we hope that you will be one of them if you are in a Boy Scout troop.
