Veterans’ cemetery honors POW/MIA Fri.
CARIBOU, Maine — To mark National POW/MIA Recognition Day, the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery will host a ceremony Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 honoring prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The local POW/MIA recognition event starts at 1 p.m. and will include a program and speaker introduction from Jim Gehring and posting of colors by CPO Carl Smith and the Loring Job Corps Honor Guard. Chloe Wheeler will sing the national anthem and Pastor Harry C. Hafford, Jr. will state the invocation.
Guest speakers include Phil Bosse, state office representative for U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins; Sharon Campbell, regional representative for U.S. Sen. Angus S. King, Jr., Kim Rohn, district office staff for U.S. Congressman Bruce L. Poliquin, and Harry C. Hafford, chairperson of the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery Corporation.
The keynote speaker for this event will be Kris Doody, RN CEO of Cary Medical Center. She and Hafford will place the memorial wreath. The Legion Riders from American Legion Post 147 Madawaska will perform a 21-gun salute. “Taps” will be played by Fred Ormezanni.
Hafford Jr. will give the benediction and Gerhing will offer the closing remarks.
