The Ashland girls continued their dominant undefeated season Saturday with a shutout victory over Hawks of Hodgdon, which had entered the match with an 8-2 record.

The Hornets were blanked over the first 30 minutes, but broke through for a pair of goals before intermission and went on to a 5-0 victory.

Caitlin Paradis had a hat trick, scoring one of the first-half goals and adding two more in the second, while Mackenzie Carter and Olivia Tardie were the other Ashland goal scorers. For the freshman Tardie, it was her first career goal.

Carter chipped in with a pair of assists and Morgan Doughty contributed one.

The Hornets had also blanked Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook last Tuesday, 8-0. Carter and Savannah Flint recorded three goals each, with Flint also notching two assists and Carter one. Paradis had the other two goals, with Doughty and Valerie Burby picking up assists.

Ashland is now 11-0 and hold a comfortable lead over second-place Madawaska for the top spot in Class D North with three matches remaining. The next test is a home game against 7-1 Fort Fairfield this Friday. Ashland had handed the Tigers their only loss Sept. 15.

The Hornet boys are up to second place in the division with a 7-4 record after besting both Hodgdon and Southern Aroostook. In the most recent win, by a 7-2 final over the Hawks Saturday, Jarrett Beaulier and Kyle Beaulier both had hat tricks and Alex Kaiser added a second-half goal.

Timmy Tarr and Steven Bellanceau shared the goalie chores as Tarr left with an injury early in the second half. They combined for two saves on four shots.

In the 5-1 victory over Southern Aroostook played last Tuesday, Kyle Beaulier again had a hat trick and assisted on Lucas Craig’s goal. Kaiser also scored for the Hornets. Tarr saved four of 10 shots in goal.

Also last Tuesday, the Central Aroostook teams hosted East Grand and the Panthers swept the doubleheader. Karli Levesque and Kelsey Dominique scored three goals each in the 6-0 girls’ win. Ashlee Harris eased her way to the shutout in goal by saving one of three shots. The CA boys won by a score of 6-1.

The Panther girls are in fifth place with a 6-2 record, while the boys are in third at 7-1. Both made the trip to Fort Fairfield Tuesday to take on the Tigers in pointworthy matchups.

In Class B soccer, both Presque Isle teams played at Mount Desert Island during the week before hosting Foxcroft Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcat boys played to a pair of 0-0 draws. In the most recent match against the Ponies, PI had plenty of chances to score, especially in the second half, but could not put in a goal.

Coach Joe Greaves said a stellar defensive effort, spearheaded by Kyle Rider, helped preserve the tie. It was the third shutout in three matches for freshman goalkeeper Jason Dumais, who was moved up from the JV team two weeks ago.

“He has stepped up in a huge way, doing it against some very talented teams,” Greaves said.

The Wildcats own a 3-4-3 record and are in fifth place in Class B North.

The PI girls continue to experience success with their young team. They are now 6-3-1 and in eighth place after losing to MDI Thursday and bouncing back to shut down Foxcroft Saturday, 4-0.

Chrissy Skidgel and Madison Michaud scored in the loss, while Taylor Williams netted the first two goals and Natalie Bates and Michaud came through with second-half scores in topping the Ponies at home. Flynn needed just two saves for her second consecutive shutout win over Foxcroft and fifth of the season.

The Wildcats have matches on the road against Hermon coming up, with the girls playing today and the boys Thursday. John Bapst makes the trip to PI for Saturday afternoon contests.
