Veterans’ Memorial
The Mapleton Lions Club added two stones to the veterans’ memorial at Mapleton Elementary School in their continued effort to ensure every veteran from the three towns that served during a war period is properly represented.
The search for names to be added to the memorial has not ended. The factors considered by the Lions are: the home of record upon entry into military service, service during a war period and honorable discharge. If the discharge papers have a home of record upon entry into military service that is not Mapleton, Castle Hill or Chapman, then the veteran would not be eligible for the memorial. However, if there are extenuating circumstances with the home of record (e.g. parents moved after the veteran enlisted; married a girl from Presque Isle after enlisting and used her address; etc.), the Lions will consider each case if the facts are presented with the discharge papers.
If you are a veteran or know a veteran that may be eligible for the memorial, please send your information substantiating eligibility to Town Manager Jon Frederick, PO Box 500, Mapleton, ME 04757 or call 764-3754.
