Plaid-clad suspect wanted in PI truck theft
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The local Police Department is trying to track down a man suspected of stealing a truck from the local high school.
Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, a Presque Isle High School employee went to work after parking a truck and leaving it unlocked with the keys inside.
While such a practice usually doesn’t end in a theft in low-crime areas, by around 11 a.m., the owner noticed the truck was missing, according to Sgt. Mark Barnes of the Presque Isle Police Department. Surveillance footage shows a man in a green-and-yellow plaid long-sleeve shirt, blue plaid shorts and a baseball cap in the area at the time.
The truck was not missing for long — but was taken for a ride. Caribou police found the vehicle undamaged and with the keys inside around 3 p.m. that same afternoon in the parking lot of the Hannaford in Caribou.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect in the truck theft in two locations and images of him have been posted on the Presque Isle Police Department’s Facebook page.
Police are having trouble identifying the man and, while the close-up images are a bit blurry, they’re asking the public for help, Barnes said. Anyone who may recognize the suspect is urged to call 764-4476.
