Graham and Bartley lead Wildcat XC teams
at PVC championships

    LINCOLN, Maine The Presque Isle girls placed third and the boys sixth at the Penobscot Valley Conference cross country championships, held Saturday.

    Leading the Wildcat squads were seniors Mandy Graham and Jason Bartley.
Graham was the runner-up in the large school meet with a time of 20:33.24 on the three-mile course. Her effort helped PI score 74 points and the team was behind only champion Mount Desert Island (59) and Caribou (65). The Wildcats beat Old Town, John Bapst, Foxcroft Academy and Hermon.
Bartley was the fourth fastest runner overall among large school teams. He crossed the finish line in 17:14.93. Presque Isle tallied 132 points as a team and was sixth out of seven teams.
Other top-30 performers for the PI squads were, for girls, Madison Jandreau (ninth, 21:36.59), Isabelle Jackson (22:00.18) and Emily Colligan (16th, 22:12.38); and for boys, Trace Cyr (26th, 19:37.73) and Max Bartley (28th, 19:53.62).
The teams will next compete at the Eastern Maine Championships this Saturday in Belfast. Teams finishing among the top half in their divisions and individuals in the top 30 will qualify for the state meet, set for Oct. 31 in Cumberland.
