Toxic money pollutes democracy
To the editor:
It’s clear that our elections are on the market — with enough money from special interests, they can be bought. And the same people who’ve been contaminating our air and water with toxic pollution have been contaminating our democracy and elections with toxic money.
But we can do something about this on Election Day. I’m voting “Yes”on Question 1 to support transparency by shining a light on special interest money in Maine elections, accountability by creating stricter fines and penalties for special interests that break our election laws, and fairness by encouraging strict campaign spending and contribution limits.
In order to have a clean, safe environment and address big issues like the climate crisis, we need a clean election system.
On November 3, help take back control of Maine elections — so it’s in the hands of the voters, not big polluters and other special interests — by joining me and voting “Yes” on Question 1.
