Bottle bill changes hands
AUGUSTA, Maine — The administration of Maine’s Returnable Beverage Program is being transferred on Nov. 1 from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry (DACF) to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
This change is the result of action by the Maine Legislature, through Public Law 166 “An Act to Promote Recycling Program Integration and Efficiencies.”
DACF personnel will continue performing their inspections related to bottle bill program matters. Administrative functions, such as receiving and tracking label registrations, licensing and renewals of redemption centers, questions on initiator of deposit or contracted agent, and other such tasks, will be handled by the DEP.
