ESTERO, FL & PRESQUE ISLE, ME — Barbara Thompson Talbot, 82, passed away November 6, 2015. She was born September 9, 1933, in Presque Isle.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted wife to her husband, Joe, of fifty-two years until his passing in 2004. It was at the Presque Isle Air Force Base where Barbara met the love of her life. Barbara and Joe moved to Rhode Island where Joe completed pharmacy school and began their family. They returned to Aroostook County with their four children, where she was excited to raise her family.
Barbara loved being a mother and wife most of all, and spent her life doting on her husband, children and eventually, her beloved grandchildren. She was the glue that held the family together. Barbara was known to be an enthusiastic storyteller, and kept the kids entertained for hours. There was not anything she would not do for her children or grandchildren, whether it be parasailing or taking yet another swim in the pool. She did whatever her family needed her to do, and she was always pleased to oblige. Family and friends were Barbara’s passion and delight.
She loved golfing, traveling and spending quality time with her family and many friends. She enjoyed her winters in Estero, FL, and, being the social butterfly she was, she built another strong contingent of friends there as well over the years.
Barbara was a kind, caring and compassionate mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She will be sorely missed by those whose lives she touched. Very few people leave such a mark on the world as Barbara did.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Talbot McGivern and her husband, Dennis of Merrimack, NH; a son, Michael Joseph Talbot and his wife, Judy, of Hudson, OH; a son, Douglas T. Talbot and his wife, Theresa, of Presque Isle, ME; and a daughter, Maureen Talbot McMullin and her husband, Tim, of Scarborough, ME; as well as eight grandchildren, Kelly Bennett, Ryan and Meagan McGivern, Christopher and Sean Talbot, Mckenzie and Matthew Talbot, and Cameron McMullin; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Connor Bennett; and a sister, Bobbie Ireland of Presque Isle, ME.
Predeceasing her was her sister, Eileen Young.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Main Street in Presque Isle on Friday, November 13, at 10 a.m., with the Reverend Kyle Doustou celebrant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Joseph N. Talbot Family Pharmacy Scholarship Fund, c/o City Drug Store, 159 Academy Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
