United Way Executive Director Claudia Stevens, who will soon retire, expressed her gratitude for MMG’s continued support at the presentation ceremony.
“They work so hard and they make it so effortless for us,” she said. “The United Way reaps the benefit.” MMG has put on the golf tournament for 22 years, Stevens said.
“The money will be put into our general fund, used for about 20 different agencies and programs throughout Aroostook County — from children to seniors,” Stevens noted. The United Way distributes funds to local agencies, directly benefiting people in Aroostook County.
More than 100 golfers took part in the tournament, MMG officials said. In its 22 years, the tournament has raised over $439,000 for United Way.
“For more than two decades, MMG has proudly contributed to the important mission of the United Way of Aroostook,” said MMG President and CEO Larry Shaw. “Throughout the year, the United Way offers invaluable support to our neighbors in need.
“The enormous success of this fundraising effort would not be possible without the support of our business partners both near and far. We are thankful for their involvement and investment in Aroostook County.”
A number of MMG employees joined in presenting the check to Stevens.
According to the United Way, 99.3% of donations stay right in the local area and are used to support programs throughout The County. The remaining small percentage goes to agencies in other areas, as designated specifically by donors.
