Sorority plans auction to fund teacher grants

The November meeting of Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) International Society for Key Women Educators was held Nov. 3, 2015 at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church in Presque Isle.

The mission of DKG is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

The meeting was called to order by President Julie Gardner. Hostesses for the evening were Erin Hoffses, Deborah Laplante, and Jane James. During the business meeting, Melissa Buck gave an informative presentation on finding your passions both personally and professionally. Members set goals for their passions for the upcoming year.

Elaine Hendrickson led a discussion on plans to present educational grants to Aroostook County teachers (who have taught five years or less) to assist them with professional development as well as other classroom activities. Members were reminded to bring auction items to the December meeting to support these grants.

Dinner was served by the ladies of Grant Memorial Methodist Church. As usual, the meal was delicious and the money raised from the meal will support the charity work of the group.

The next meeting of Delta chapter will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 4:30 p.m. at the church. It promises to be a fun night of great food and a lively Christmas auction.
