Tech training to focus on mobile navigation
PRESQUE ISLE — A workshop on use of the latest technology for proper planning and implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at the USDA office building on Main Street in Presque Isle.
The session is free to attend, with lunch provided, and will run from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sponsors are Huber Engineered Wood, Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District and the Maine Forest Service.
This workshop will provide training in the use of Google Earth and other mobile navigational apps that are helpful in cruising timber and harvest planning. It is designed to help landowners, foresters, loggers and others to make informed decisions about finding harvestable timber, preparing harvesting jobs and using BMPs.
In addition to a classroom presentation, participants will tour a woodlot found on Google Earth and make a track and waypoints. Those who have them may bring a mobile device, laptop computer, tablet or smartphone.
Randy Lagasse and Dan Jacobs of the Maine Forest Service, Jacob Guimond of the Bureau of Parks and Lands and Bruce Wilkins, private consulting forester, are the scheduled presenters.
Registration is required. Contact Kevin Doran at kevin.doran@maine.gov or 287-4988 for more information
