Students learn risks of tobacco
WASHBURN NEWS
By Beth Boddy
Last week Washburn District School was visited by two community education specialists from Healthy Aroostook.
Jo-Ellen Kelley and Dawn Roberts shared with students the importance of the Great American Smoke-Out and educated students on the harmful effects of tobacco products. The Great American Smoke-Out has been held the third Thursday of November since the 1970s, to encourage people to quit smoking.
Educators will be back in Washburn on Dec. 4 to speak with middle school students on the health risks associated with electronic and vapor cigarettes.
For information on the harmful effects of tobacco or resources to help you quit smoking, you can visit: http://www.cancer.org/healthy/stayawayfromtobacco.

Correction
One of the young ladies in last week’s photograph of the new Washburn Beavers sign was incorrectly identified. She is Danielle Thompson, and not Jillian Mandeville. The newspaper apologizes for this error.
