Calling ‘elves’ to donate
PRESQUE ISLE — In the spirit of Christmas, Rathbun Lumber invites the people of Presque Isle to walk, drive, or come by “reindeer-pulled sleigh” to their store at 43 State St. and drop off toy and food donations to help make the season special for children in need.
“Our goal is to have food and toys piled as high as they can go,” said company co-owner Pat Rathbun. “All the employees plan to contribute, and Rathbun Lumber will donate $1 for each toy received.”
Toys can be dropped off from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturdays. A large hot tub on display in the store will serve as Santa’s sleigh. Both toy and food donations are being accepted. Toys will be presented to the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club for distribution to local families. Donated food items will go to local soup kitchens and pantries.
Dec. 11 will mark the highlight of the drive, and is the final day for donations. The company will serve coffee and donuts during the day, along with a small gift for anyone who stops by with a donation.
