Beaver athletes garner awards for fall sports season

WASHBURN, Maine Washburn District High School held its fall sports awards night Nov. 12, 2015 at the Doc Albert Gymnasium. Athletic Director Ron Ericson welcomed those attending and special thanks went out the custodians and parents.

Girls’ soccer coach Marcie Barbarula and assistant coach Crystal Hobbs presented awards to the girls’ soccer team. Receiving letters were Jayden Harris, Sydney Chavez, Hannah Dow, Julia Dahlgren, and Mackenzie Rossignol. Receiving pins were Jessica Aube, Grace Braley, Emilia Churchill, Taylor Howe, Brooklyn Plummer, Mariah Davis, Kristen Sarmiento, Makenzie Vaughn, Macey Barker, Kathryn Easler, Bobbie Lee Campbell, Alexis Carney, Samantha Churchill, Mollie Clark, Kassandra Farley, Samantha White and manager Meghan Farley. Three-year letter plaques were awarded to Davis, Sarmiento, Vaughn, Grace Braley and Taylor Howe.
Easler was awarded Most Valuable Defensive Player, Most Improved Player went to Aube, and the Coach’s Awards went to Braley and Plummer. Churchill was recognized for being named All-Aroostook and All-Northern Maine.
Andy and Kolbie Churchill presented awards to the boys’ and girls cross country teams. Receiving letters for the girls’ team were Samantha White, Kassandra Farley, Mollie Clark, Samantha Churchill, and Alexis Carney. Girls receiving pins were Jessica Aube, Mariah Campbell, Emilia Churchill, Kristen Sarmiento, Macey Barker and managers Makenzie Vaughn and Taylor Howe. Receiving certificates were Bobbie Lee Campbell and Rachel Thurston. Three-year letter plaques were awarded to Aube, Campbell and Sarmiento.
Most Valuable Runner awards went to Farley and Churchill. The Coach’s Award was presented to Clark. The Most Improved Runner Award went to Sarmiento. Aube was presented the prestigious Richard “Dick” Hartford Award.
Receiving letters for the boys’ team were Edward McLaughlin, Breadon Campbell, and Brennan Viola. Awarded pins were Derek Baker, Noah Caron, Parker Thompson, Kevin Jordan, Caleb Thompson, McCall Turner, Devon Maynard and Ethan Butler. Third-year letter plaques went to Baker and Thompson.
Baker was named the Most Valuable Runner. The Coach’s Award was presented to Devon Maynard. The Most Improved Runners were Noah Caron and Brennan Viola.
Washburn’s All-Aroostook runners were recognized. They are Sarmiento, Churchill, Farley, Maynard and Baker.
Ben Goodwin presented awards to the boys’ soccer Team. Receiving letters were Jovanni Tavares, Quintin Thompson and Keith McGraw. Receiving pins were Justin Davis, Carter Doak, Brandon Farley, Tyler Jardine, Benton Plante, Parker Thompson, Andrew Gumprehct, Keenan Jordan, Cameron Hartford, Kevin Jordan, Caleb Thompson, McCall Turner, Brandon Cropley, scorekeeper Bryce Roix and manager Owen James. Third-year letter plaques went to Gumprehct, Hartford, Caleb Thompson, Turner, Cropley and Plante.
The Most Valuable Player Award went to Parker Thompson, the Coach’s Awards to Caron and Doak, and the Most Improved Player went to Jardine. Recognized for All-Aroostook honors were Parker Thompson and Caron. Caron was also named All Northern Maine.
Receiving varsity jackets were Aube, Baker, Cropley, Davis, Doak, Farley, Jardine, Plummer and Turner.
Ericson announced plans to recognize J.M. Huber and S.W. Collins for their generosity in helping with the final phase of the dugout construction project for the girls’ soccer field.
