Churchill reaches Eagle rank

Cathy and Jim Churchill of Chapman are pleased to announce that their son James Churchill earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Dec. 6, 2015.
“From the time that James started in Scouting his goal was to make it to becoming an Eagle Scout,” his parents stated.
“James was always the only Scout that stuck with it for his age group. To be in Cub Scouts and always the only one in your grade was challenging, to say the least, in a den of one, but despite that he wouldn’t give up on his long-term goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.”
The Eagle Scout is the highest honor and achievement in Boy Scouting. James accomplished his goal with the help of his troop this past spring. For his service project, he undertook a project at the Presque Isle Historical Society’s Vera Estey House Museum.
Along with the help of many people, he painted and cataloged items in the Estey House shed, while trying to complete his busy senior year at Presque Isle High School. His ceremony was held Dec. 6. His family and friends are all very proud of him for succeeding and accomplishing his goals and for not giving up when it got tough. Congratulations, James.
Movie Day
The Mapleton Parents Organization is sponsoring a “Movie Day” on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
Students are invited to wear their favorite pajamas to school and the MPO will be showing a holiday movie and serving popcorn.

Town Office News
The Mapleton Town Office will close at noon on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and will be closed all day Christmas Day.
The towns will be closing the books on their fiscal year all day Dec. 31, and the office will be closed to town business. The last opportunity to pay 2015 taxes and avoid the delinquent tax list will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
