Washburn Rotarians honored
WASHBURN NEWS
The Washburn Rotarians held their annual holiday party on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015. Robert and Darcy McBay of the Mapleton Diner were the special guests that evening.
Robert Helstrom from Washburn was officially inducted into Rotary after dinner.
Charlotte Griffin received the 2015 Washburn Rotarian of the year award and Kermit Fuller was belatedly given the 2014 Washburn Rotarian of the year award. Dennis Harris received the Rotarian Perfect Attendance award for never having missed a meeting.
NHS holds food drive
On Friday, Dec. 4, the Washburn National Honor Society held a dance at the high school to raise money for their various activities.
Steve Boddy volunteered as deejay in exchange for a food drive to be done by the students to help stock the town food pantry for the winter. The students did an amazing job, collecting over 400 nonperishable food items.
Holiday Concert
The middle/high school chorus and band concert was held on Thursday. Dec. 10 at the elementary school.
Robert Helstrom as the new band and chorus instructor in Washburn put together a great program that included both traditional and newer songs for the kids to perform. The elementary gym was packed and the children sounded great.
December Rec activities
The Washburn Recreation Department has two events planned over the December break. On Monday, Dec. 21, there will be ornament making for grades 2-4 from 2:45-4:15 p.m. at the Washburn recreation department. There will also be a trip to the Braden Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 23, for grades 3-8.
