Ice skating outing
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a field trip to the Forum for free ice skating on Monday, Dec. 28 from 1-3 p.m. The bus will depart from the community center at 12:30 p.m. and return at approximately 3:30 p.m. Participants must be at least nine years of age to attend or be accompanied on the bus by a responsible chaperone. Registration forms are available at school or the community center and must be filled out and returned prior to the date of the trip.
Roller skating outing
The department is also sponsoring a field trip to the Melody Roller Rink in Caribou on Wednesday, Dec. 30 from 1-3 p.m. The bus will depart from the community center at 12:30 p.m. and return at approximately 3:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.
As with all recreation department-sponsored field trips, participants must be at least nine years of age to attend or be accompanied by a responsible chaperone. Registration forms are available at school or the community center and must be filled out and returned prior to the date of the trip.
Candlepin bowling outing
A field trip to Northern Lanes in Presque Isle for bowling is set for Thursday, Dec. 31 from 10-11:30 a.m. The bus will depart from the community center at 9:30 a.m. and will return at approximately noontime The cost is $5 per person and includes transportation, bowling shoes and bowling for over an hour. Participants must be at least nine years of age to attend or be accompanied by a responsible chaperone. Registration forms are available at the community center or at school and must be filled out and returned prior to the date of the trip.
Free skating at the Forum
Fort Fairfield residents can skate for free at the Forum in Presque Isle beginning Thursday, Dec. 24 and continue through Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016. In order to gain access to the Forum for free skating, each Fort Fairfield resident must present picture identification at the ticket window that includes proof of residency. Basketball programs
Pee Wee Basketball for boys and girls in grades 1-3 has just begun and is currently being held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Saturdays and Tuesday evenings and will continue through Feb. 6. There is no fee to participate and you can still register your child for the program by contacting the parks and recreation department at 472-3882.
Youth Basketball for boys and girls in grades 4-6 is also just underway and takes place Saturdays and Wednesday evenings and will continue through Feb. 6. There is no fee to participate and you can still register your child by contacting the parks and recreation department at 472-3882.
Travel basketball teams
Boys and girls in grades 4-6 who are participating in the Fort Fairfield Youth Basketball program will have an opportunity to play on the boys or girls travel basketball teams that will play approximately 14 games with other recreation teams from throughout Aroostook County during the 2015-16 season.
There is no charge to participate on the travel teams. All players enrolled in the youth basketball program will receive more information regarding the recreation travel teams including when the first practices will be held. The travel teams are scheduled to start playing games the middle of January and will continue playing through the beginning of March, with the season ending at the Girls County Tournament in Fort Fairfield or the Boys County Tournament in Caribou.
Adult basketball
Adult basketball is being played on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Play is informal with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance.
Adult Volleyball
Adult co-ed volleyball is held every Sunday evening at the Fort Fairfield Community Center from 6-8 p.m. The program is for individuals high school age and over, with play being informal and teams being selected each night from all those in attendance.
